How do misting systems work?

Misting systems work by forcing water through a specialized nozzle to produce ultra-fine water droplets into the air surrounding target areas that require cooling. Heat is absorbed by the moisture as it changes from liquid to vapor during the evaporation process and thus creates a cooling effect. A properly installed mist system creates a curtain of mist around all open-air sides of a structure. Mist cooling can reduce temperatures by as much as 30°F depending on the efficiency of the misting system, relative humidity, and outdoor temperature.

What is the difference between a low and high pressure system?

Low pressure misting systems operate on city water pressure (ranging from 30-85 PSI). The low pressure systems generally spray the water and do not have the power to create the fine mist for improved cooling. How many nozzles can I run on my pump?

A larger misting system may require a larger pump. Please refer to pumps section under parts and accessories for specifications on the number and types of nozzle each pump can maintain.

Can I install a system myself?

Yes. Misting systems come with easy to follow step by step instructions. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call our customer service department.

Where should I install the mist line?

The mist line should be installed on the bottom outer edge of the structure. This will create a curtain around the surrounding area you wish to cool.

Is the pump noisy?

Direct Drive pumps are typically quieter than a pool pump.

What type of oil is used in the pump head?

A 30w non detergent pump oil that can be found under our accessories section of our site.

How often do I need to do maintenance on the pump?

The pump’s oil should be changed at 500 hours or every other summer.

What is the difference between the Direct Drive and Pulley Style Pumps?

The pulley style pump is fan cooled, totally enclosed, driven by pulley's and belt, much quieter and longer lasting life.

Where should we place Misting pump?

Typically the misting pumps are placed by a pool equipment area or side of a house where there is a hose bib and water source.

Can I adjust the pressure on the pump?

Yes, there is an adjustable regulator located on the pump head. Do Not Exceed 1000 psi or you may risk damaging your misting system.

I have a plugged nozzle. What do I do?

Although it is unusual, misting nozzles can be susceptible to hard water deposits. If tapping the nozzle on a hard surface does not dislodge the mineral accumulation, remove the o-ring and soak the nozzle head in a small amount of a Lime or Hard Water removal product for about 5 min. If the nozzle is still not spraying properly, it will need to be replaced. (The Lime or Hard Water removal products can be found at your local hardware store)

Do I need a filter for my misting system?

Yes. Filters remove sediment down to 5 microns from the water supply that would clog the nozzle. Filters should be replaced annually to prolong the quality and duration of the misting system.

What maintenance is required for the winter?

To prevent damage from freezing to your misting system, start by disconnecting the water source to the pump. Then nozzles should be removed and the water drained from the lines, pump and filtration systems. For the systems that are underground, the hoses/pipes should be drained by attaching an air compressor to the hose to blow out any remaining water left in the line. As added protection in the areas that freeze, you can add red or green non toxic RV antifreeze to the hoses underground.

You can then clean the nozzles by first removing the o-ring and then soaking the nozzle heads in a Lime or Hard Water deposit removal product. Replace the nozzles so they are not misplaced.
